Ford Stretches UK Lead in July with Sales Hat-Trick
OREANDA-NEWS. August 07, 2015. Ford models were first second and third in UK total vehicle sales in July and the company stretched its car sales lead over its nearest rival by 48 per cent, compared with July 2014.
According to the official July sales figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT):
- Ford is UK market leader in total vehicle, car and commercial vehicle (CV) sales
- Ford Fiesta, Ford Focus and Ford Transit range top UK total vehicle sales
- July sales push total Ford Focus registrations beyond 1.75 million since launch
- Ford Fiesta is the best-selling small car in Europe for the first half of 2015
- Fiesta Van, Transit Connect, Transit Custom, Transit and Ranger are all CV segment leaders
Andy Barratt, Ford of Britain chairman and managing director, said: “We have consolidated and extended our long-standing UK market leadership through continued investment in exciting products and industry-leading technologies, delivered through the strongest UK dealer network.
“The sales success of our fresh and extended CV range this month has made five models segment leaders and the other one a close second. Our car sales are also gathering momentum as we roll out further new models including C-MAX, S-MAX, Galaxy, Mustang and Mondeo Vignale.”
The official figures released by the SMMT today show that total car sales in July were up 3.2 per cent to 178,420 units, compared with July 2014. Ford car sales were 24,115, 7,216 registrations ahead of its nearest rival. For the year to date (end July) total UK car sales were 1,555,309 up 6.5 per cent, compared with the same period in 2014. Ford car sales for this period were 201,265, 41,932 registrations ahead of its nearest rival.
Ford’s lead in retail car sales reflects the preferences of private buyers. In June, Ford was 3.7 percentage points of retail car sales share ahead of its nearest rival and for the year to date, it was ahead 4.2 percentage points.
The Ford Fiesta is in its seventh year as the UK top seller and in July it secured 8,504 registrations, 3,618 sales and 2.0 percentage points of share ahead of its nearest non-Ford rival. A total of 71,990 UK customers were a major contributor to the 173,999 sales that have made the Fiesta the most popular small car in Europe for the first half of 2015.
Ford Focus increased sales and share in July, compared with July 2014, while Ford Kuga sales are at the highest level since it was launched, also recording sales and share increases in July, compared with prior year figures.
UK commercial vehicle sales in July were up 4.9 per cent at 30,098, compared with July 2014. Total sales of Ford CVs were 7,009, 3,109 sales ahead of its nearest rival. For the year to date total UK CV sales were up 19 per cent at 242,744, compared with 2014. Total sales of Ford CVs for the same period were up 30.1 per cent at 60,149, compared with 2014.
Ford light commercials sales for the year to date have increased substantially, compared with 2014, increasing from 8,531 to 13,542 with share up from 15.5 to 23.0 per cent. Ford medium commercial sales for the year to date, compared with 2014, increased from 37,692 to 46,607 with share up from 28.7 to 29.3 per cent.
