OREANDA-NEWS. August 07, 2015. At the beginning of 2015 the average American car had the age of 11.5 years. It is six months less than the average Russian car.

According to "Za rulem.RF" at the beginning of 2015 the average age of the parc in the US rose to 11.5 years, and it is an absolute record in the history of observations. According to the marketing company IHS Automotive, which conducted the research, in 2009 the average car in the US household had an age of about 9.4 years. "Aging" is explained by the steady increase in the quality of cars and it will continue but at a slower rate: up to about 11.7 years in 2018.

Simultaneously with the increase in the life of the vehicles, Americans are becoming more attached to them and they change less their cars. If in 2006, by buying a new car, a person, remained the owner during 51 months, by 2015, this period has increased to 77.8 months, or almost 6.5 years. A similar jump occurred in the period of ownership of second-hand cars: now the Americans keep them in the garage for more than five years, instead of three as in 2006. Another record was set in the US this year, it concerns the overall size of the parc of the country: in the last year in the United States it has increased by 5.3 million vehicles, and the number was 257.9 million units.

We can also note that America is almost equal to Russia by the parc age: as of January 1st, 2015, according to the agency "AUTOSTAT", the average car in the Russian Federation had the age of 12 years. Therewith, the newest cars in our country are in Tatarstan, Khanty-Mansiysk and the Perm region and the oldest ones are (20 years) - in Kamchatka.
