OREANDA-NEWS. Shvabe Holding's specialists have obtained a patent for invention: "Protective coatings for hygroscopical optical materials based on laser deposited carbon nanotubes for the purpose of optoelectronics and medical engineering".

The invention of S. I. Vavilov State Optical Institute, a Shvabe Holding's enterprise, relates to the field of optical nanotechnologies and instrument-making, rocket, space and laser optics, quantum and optical nanoelectronics. The development will also be relevant in the production of displaying, television and medical equipment.

Protective coating is a necessary functional element of spectral and laser systems being capable to control radiation fluxes of various intensity with the account of processes of reflection, absorption, interference, refraction and limitation of light beams in real time mode.

The technology patented by S. I. Vavilov State Optical Institute has been developed as an innovative method for improving the spectral and strength parameters of optical materials, in particular, based on potassium bromide. The scientists have proved that this hygroscopical material acting within a broad spectral range can significantly improve the characteristics in nanostructuring with carbon nanotubes.

A slit CO2 laser with radiation power controlled laser beam is used for application of cabon nanotubes onto the substrate. Enhanced moisture resistance enables the optical coating and optical deviced based thereon to function in various regions of the spectrum, from near to middle IR band. It is just this fact that gives evidence of innovation of the development.

At present the investigation continue relating to structuring a number of materials for subsequent implementation of this technology into production.
