OREANDA-NEWS. August 06, 2015. Arthritis Associates of Southern California (AASC), a rheumatology group providing leading-edge care in the Greater Los Angeles area for patients with rheumatologic or musculoskeletal diseases, has added another physician to meet increasing demand for its services. Daniel E. Furst, M.D, a highly respected rheumatologist with many years of experience and a leading educator and researcher in the field, joined AASC in June and is now available to see patients. Arthritis Associates of Southern California is a member of The US Rheumatology Network, one of the nation’s first networks of community-based rheumatologists united through a common vision of increasing patient access to high-quality rheumatic care in communities throughout the nation.

“We are privileged to have Dr. Furst join our practice to enhance the care we provide to our patients,” said Gary R. Feldman, M.D., president, Arthritis Associates of Southern California. “Dr. Furst’s strong research background, extensive managerial skills and many years of practical experience will strengthen our organization. As a leading researcher in the field, he is well versed in the very latest advances in new biologic therapies and clinical evidence in rheumatology. He will bring new energy and ideas to our practice which will be invaluable as we strive to deliver high-quality care throughout our treatment centers.”

Dr. Furst comes to AASC from the University of California, Los Angeles Medical Center, where he was the first Carl M. Pearson Professor of Medicine. He received his Medical Degree from Johns Hopkins University, where he also completed his internship and residency. He then finished two fellowships, one in Rheumatology at UCLA Medical Center and a second in clinical pharmacology at the University of California, San Francisco Medical Center. Dr. Furst is well known in the field of rheumatology and participates on a number of national committees concerned with rheumatic therapeutics. He recently was co-leader of the American College of Rheumatology (ACR) recommendations for the use of non-biologic and biologic therapies in rheumatoid arthritis and is a Master of the ACR. He also has been a member of the Arthritis Advisory Committee for the FDA. Dr. Furst has published more than 650 articles and 15 books, including more than 240 research articles. His areas of research interest include the clinical pharmacology of anti-rheumatic drugs and biologics and the pathophysiology and treatment of systemic sclerosis.

“I am excited to be joining a group of dedicated, highly-skilled rheumatologists and The US Rheumatology Network to provide cutting-edge treatments and personalized care to patients with rheumatic diseases,” said Dr. Furst. “There are many new and exciting advances across the spectrum of rheumatologic and musculoskeletal conditions, and it was important for me to join a practice dedicated to offering patients access to these novel treatments.”
