OREANDA-NEWS. August 06, 2015. In order to start the dialogue that is necessary to define public policies for the development of the Latin American digital ecosystem, CAF, Development Bank of Latin America, the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), the  Centro de Estudios de Telecomunicaciones de Am?rica Latina (CET.La) (Latin American Telecommunications Study Center) and the Fundacion Telefonica carried out the study El Ecosistema y Econom?a Digital en Am?rica Latina (The Ecosystem and Digital Economics in Latin America), which contributes to understand the transformations of the industry of telecommunications and Internet-based services. 

The study analyzes how recent changes within the Latin American digital ecosystem impact on key variables for the development and competitiveness of the economies of the region. In addition, it presents recommendations based on the workshops carried out  in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Peru, with more than 180 opinion leaders from the academic and governmental sectors, entrepreneurs, telecommunications entreprises, and Over the Top operators.  

The presentation of the study will be carried out on August 6th, during the V Ministerial Conference on the Information Society of Latin America and the Caribbean, organized by ECLAC and the Government of Mexico through the Foreign Relations Secretariat.  

Participants will include the author of the study, Ra?l Katz, Associate Professor in the Division of Economics and Finances at the Business School of Columbia University;  Moira Paz-Estenssoro, CAF's Director Representative in Mexico;  Mario Cimoli, Director of ECLAC's Division of Productive and Entrepreneurial Development; Pablo Bello, Executive Director of CET.La; and Claudio Mu?oz, President of Telefonica en Chile.
