OREANDA-NEWS. August 05, 2015. The President of Nigeria, Mohammadu Buhari, met today in Abuja, for the first time since his appointment last May, Eni’s Chief Executive Officer, Claudio Descalzi.

During the meeting, which was friendly and constructive, Claudio Descalzi renewed his condolences for the tragedy caused by the recent explosion of a company’s pipeline in the Niger Delta, due to acts of sabotage, which resulted in the death of 14 people.

The meeting was an opportunity for Eni CEO to update the President on the company’s activities in the Country for the development of both oil and gas resources. The President was particularly pleased with the progress achieved in the offshore activities.

Claudio Descalzi restated Eni’s commitment to the development of the oil and gas sector in Nigeria  while President Buhari expressed his appreciation for the company’s continued engagement in the Country in the current challenging environment of low international oil prices.

Eni has been present in Nigeria since 1962. In 2014 hydrocarbon production was 135,000 boed Eni’s equity.
