OREANDA-NEWS. Transstroymekhanizatsiya (TSM, a Mostotrest subsidiary) will upgrade Alykel Airport Complex in Norilsk. Customer for the project: Federal State Unitary Enterprise "Civil Airport (Airfield) Administration". Contract value: RUB5.9 billion (including VAT).

TSM will start the project in August this year. Scheduled completion: end of 2017. Project specificities include operations in the Far North with winter temperatures down to -50°C and seasonal restrictions for transport accessibility in the region.

TSM will rebuild the airport's runway and two taxiways, lighting system support infrastructure, drainage network, power supply and communication facilities, meteorological and radio support facilities, and sewage treatment plant.

Considering the harsh conditions of the Far North, the core work will have to be done from mid-June to early September (in 50-60 days). All the preparatory work (production base, warehousing and residential campus setup) will be done in winter, at temperatures down to -50°C and during the polar night. All building materials, vehicles and equipment can be delivered to the site by river transport only (from Krasnoyarsk to Dudinka), from mid-June to late September, i.e. before the onset of winter, or by sea from Arkhangelsk or Murmansk (navigable ten months in a year).

The project is part of the Civil Aviation Sub-Program of the Federal Target Program "Development of the Transport System of Russia".

Alykel Airport Complex was put into operation in 1969. It is located in the north of the Krasnoyarsk Region, 52 km from the city of Norilsk. More than 10 airlines connect Norilsk Airport with 15 cities in Russia. Annual passenger traffic: 500,000 pax; cargo and mail throughput: 18,000 tons.
