250 apprentices start at the Lufthansa Group
OREANDA-NEWS. 250 apprentices will start their working lives at the Lufthansa Group in Germany this summer. They will be trained in 34 various professions. From specialists in system catering and cooks at LSG Sky Chefs, through specialists for warehouse logistics at Lufthansa Cargo and Lufthansa Technik, up to tool mechanics at Lufthansa Technik, the Lufthansa Group offers a varied range of trainings at different locations. With 150 apprentices, most are starting their training in Frankfurt. With around 37,000 employees, Lufthansa is the largest employer in Hesse.
“We are pleased that many young people want to start their working lives with us. Their training is very important to us,” says Dr Bettina Volkens, Member of the Executive Board and Chief Officer Corporate Human Resources and Legal Affairs at German Lufthansa AG.
Traditionally, technical professions, such as air equipment mechanics or electricians for aviation technical systems, make up the largest part of the training places. Most of the training places in the Group are at Lufthansa Technik in Frankfurt and Hamburg. But in the other business fields, such as passenger transport, logistics and catering, young people have the possibility to learn a profession with a future-oriented perspective. In total, around 1,500 apprentices currently work in the Lufthansa Group throughout Germany. There are also additional apprentices that work for the Lufthansa Group abroad at over 80 locations.
Additionally, more than 1,400 flight attendants have been recruited by Lufthansa in 2015. Lufthansa currently offers two contract models for joining as a flight attendant:
- Permanent employment with a part-time factor of 83 per cent, in which flying is on full-time in summer and reduced in winter.
- Fixed term employment of two years with a part-time factor of 50 per cent, which can be extended once by a further two years. In this model, flight attendants work full-time in summer and then have six months off.
In both models remuneration and social security are paid over twelve months. The new employees will be trained in twelve week courses for their employment as flight attendants. 32 courses will still be starting this year. Further courses will be offered next year.
“Lufthansa is and remains the top employer for flight attendants. We offer employment prospects at attractive conditions in the cabin”, says Volkens.
