Alstom to supply China’s highest capacity generator step-up transformers to Hubei Energy Group
OREANDA-NEWS. Alstom has been awarded the Ezhou Power Plant phase III Generator Step-up Transformer contract by Hubei Energy Group Co., Ltd. The transformers will become China’s highest capacity transformers and will be the first three-phase generator transformers manufactured by a European company in China for a 2x1050 MW power plant.
Ezhou Power Plant phase III expansion project is located in Gedian Economic Development Zone. It is the largest thermal power generating unit in Hubei Province and is a critical electricity supply facility for the city of Wuhan. Generator step-up transformers require very specific know-how, high capacity production equipment and extensive testing capabilities, as these type of transformers are fully loaded most of the time with high voltage and highly rated power.
The transformers will be manufactured by Alstom’s world-class facility in Wuhan. This environmentally friendly manufacturing site is recognized by the Chinese National Investment Projects Excellence Award as well as the US LEED certification. It has a well outstanding manufacturing capability and experience on large capacity transformers.
"We are honored to start the first cooperation with Hubei Energy Group in transformer business, providing Alstom’s advanced technology expertise, strong R&D capability and excellent local manufacturing capacity. We are looking forward to continue supporting and contributing to the energy development of Hubei Province," said Michel Serra, Alstom Grid Senior Vice President for the China and East Asia Pacific Region.
