OREANDA-NEWS. The government of the Samara region is ready to help with the launch of the second generation of Chevrolet Niva after the owners of GM-AVTOVAZ will make the final decision on the project, said Minister of Economic Development, Investment and Trade of Samara region, Alexander Kobenko.

"We are ready to help, but it is necessary to decision of the owners of the company - AvtoVAZ and General Motors - that this project will be implemented. We expect that the decision will be taken at the next board of directors of [GM-AVTOVAZ]", - said the Minister, without specifying the date of the Board. According to him, the two companies were looking for ways to optimize the project, "including reducing the volume of investment and improve its performance in the framework of operations."

Now the government of the Samara region is helping the company to solve a number of issues related to the registration of necessary documents, wrote the newspaper "Vedomosti". It is, in particular, about re-signing of agreement on industrial assembly. "Another issue is concerning the attracting of project financing under the project. That is, banks are ready, the issue is only about the owner's consent and determining of the final strategy for the implementation of the project", - added Mr.Kobenko.

GM-AVTOVAZ in March of this year terminated ahead the contract with the company "Avtozavodstroy", the general contractor of construction of industrial buildings for the production of the SUV Chevrolet Niva of second generation. Reasons for termination of the contract and other details were not specified by the company. At the same time the representative of GM reported about the suspension of the project for the production of the new Chevrolet Niva, by noting that the company does not refuse completely its implementation. The launch of the second generation of Chevrolet Niva was scheduled for 2016.
