Doosan Wins Sewage Treatment Projects in Oman and the U.K.
Doosan acquired the Phase 2 project of the Al-Ansab Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) worth US \\$81 million from Haya Water, Oman’s state-owned sewage treatment company, on June 25. A few days later on June 29, Doosan Enpure (a U.K.-based subsidiary of Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction) also signed a US \\$56 million contract to replace the Bellozane sewage treatment works (STW) in Jersey, U.K.
The Al-Ansab STP is the largest MBR wastewater treatment plant in the Middle East to date, capable of treating 150,000 tons of sewage per day. Doosan will be in charge of supplying the main equipment, as well as executing the construction and commissioning process of the plant, which is scheduled for completion by 2017.
Through a competitive open bidding process, Doosan was awarded the Al-Ansab STP project from among world-leading water treatment companies, having been recognized for its advanced technologies and cost competitiveness.
The MBR(Membrane Bio Reactor) process is a cutting-edge wastewater treatment technology, which combines the advantages of the membrane process and bioreactor to remove solids, thereby enabling the efficient production of high-quality reclaimed water, while leaving a smaller environmental footprint.
Doosan expects the recent projects will serve as a platform for the company to further expand its large-scale MBR wastewater projects and effectively meet clients’ needs with its innovative process, solutions and services.
Seokwon Yun, the Water BG CEO at Doosan, said, “I believe Doosan was able to win these sewage treatment projects by capitalizing on its continuous efforts in the R&D of advanced water and wastewater treatment technologies and owing to its proven experience in the market.” He added, “We are stepping up our efforts to expand our global reach in the water and wastewater treatment market, which is projected to be worth around US\\$ 60 trillion by 2018.”
