OREANDA-NEWS. July 28, 2015. FCA US LLC is conducting a voluntary safety recall to recalibrate control modules on approximately 667,406 U.S.-market trucks to prevent inadvertent side-curtain air-bag and seatbelt pre-tensioner deployment.

Modules in certain pickups may have calibrations with a low deployment threshold. The Company is aware of two potentially related injuries, both described as minor, but no accidents.

FCA US launched an investigation following customer complaints of advertent deployments, accounting for less than 0.005 percent of the population, almost all of which occurred when vehicle doors were slammed with excessive force. Further, engineers discovered the low deployment threshold is in four-door vehicles.

Affected are model-year 2013-2015 Ram 1500, 2500 and 2500 pickups. Additional vehicles numbering approximately 153,011 in Canada; 8,272 in Mexico and 14,847 outside the NAFTA region, also are included in campaign.

Affected customers will be advised when they may schedule service, which will be performed free of charge. In the interim, FCA US advises that owners of these vehicles exercise caution when closing doors.
