Yatsenyuk: Government sets up working group to hand over a number of customs under the management of a British company
OREANDA-NEWS. July 23, 2015. The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine adopts a decision to immediately establish a working group to hand over a number of customs to manage by a British company, which has considerable experience in managing the customs in Europe, informed Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk at a Government meeting.
He noted that the day before he had had a meeting with the leadership of this company.
Arseniy Yatsenyuk stressed that the Government is considering transferring the management, in particular, of Zakarpattia, Lviv, Volyn and Chernivtsi customs: "They should come under control of an independent and professional company, and order should be introduced in these customs: the first thing is the fight against smuggling, enlarging customs revenues and increasing institutional capacity of the customs service".
"We consider the transfer of control over these customs in the shortest possible time. The Chairman of the State Fiscal Service has received relevant instructions. We stand together with the Minister of Finance in this issue", said Arseniy Yatsenyuk.
According to the Head of the Government, these pilot customs will enable, notably, to train new Ukrainian customs officers, "to ensure the entire system of the customs service, which still remains corrupt, post-Soviet and, unfortunately, does not perform its primary function which is collecting revenue, transparency and fairness in customs clearance, to be reformed as fast as possible."
