Delta's annual Dream Flight furthers students’ passion for aviation
OREANDA-NEWS. July 23, 2015. Delta will help young aviation enthusiasts cultivate their passion for flight.
Delta and the Organization of Black Aerospace Professionals will host more than 150 students, ages 14-18, on the airline’s 16th annual Dream Flight from Atlanta to the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio.
At the base, students will tour the National Museum of the United States Air Force and a C-17 Globemaster cargo aircraft on the flightline of the 445th Airlift Wing. Students will also interact with members of the U.S. Air Force and learn about the various careers available.
Delta co-sponsors OBAP's Aviation Career Education camp and Flight Line summer programs for teenagers who have an interest in pursuing careers in aviation. The ACE camp provides students with a unique, behind-the-scenes opportunity to experience the operations at an airline. The focus of the program is to teach students aviation history, aerodynamics, meteorology, navigation and flight simulator orientation with qualified flight instructors. Select graduates from ACE Camp are invited back the following year to participate in Flight Line, an in-depth program that focuses specifically on pilot training, including allowing students to perform solo flights during their week-long training.
As part of the final week of training, all camp students as well as students from aviation programs across the U.S. are transported on the Dream Flight to a daylong field trip at a major aviation facility.
