OREANDA-NEWS. Transstroymekhanizatsiya (TSM, a Mostotrest subsidiary) won the tender for Phase 2 reconstruction of airfield pavement at Nizhniy Novgorod (Strigino) International Airport, and will upgrade the airport's Runway 1.

Customer for the project: Federal State Unitary Enterprise "Civil Airport (Airfield) Administration". Contract value: RUB4.5 billion (including VAT). Expected commissioning: end of 2017.

The project envisions Runway 1 upgrade and extension by 500m, to 3 km. In addition, TSM will upgrade two taxiways, the apron and rainwater drainage network, replace lighting equipment, meteorological and radio flight support systems, build three checkpoints, a standalone surveillance point, control tower and rescue station, an aircraft maintenance facility, a system for structured monitoring and control of engineering systems of buildings and facilities, and other infrastructure.

The reconstruction will be carried out with no airport closures, no restrictions will apply to landings and takeoffs.

TSM currently continues to upgrade Runway 2, as well as parts of the apron and several taxiways at Nizhniy Novgorod International Airport. Completion is scheduled for December 2015.

Reconstruction of the airport in Nizhniy Novgorod is part of the Civil Aviation Sub-Program of the Federal Target Program "Development of the Transport System of Russia", and is implemented in the run-up to the World Cup 2018. Completion is scheduled for 2017. Following the reconstruction, Nizhniy Novgorod International Airport will be able to handle such aircraft types as Boeing-747, Boeing-777 and Airbus-330.

Strigino International Airport serves the city of Nizhniy Novgorod and the Nizhniy Novgorod region and is a part of the Moscow air hub (MAH). During 2014, the airport passenger traffic increased by 23.4% to 1.13 million pax.
