Mybster and Dounreay sites get under way
OREANDA-NEWS. July 20, 2015. Work is getting under way this month to build a 2.4 hectare extension to Mybster substation, east of the A9 on the Causeymire, and at Dounreay to enable the connection of the upgraded overhead transmission line which will run south to Spittal via Thurso South, near Geiselittle.
The start of work at Mybster and Dounreay, following on swiftly from Thurso South last month, means that there is now activity across all main substation sites associated with Scottish Hydro Electric Transmission’s ?1.1 billion Caithness-Moray project.
Providing a new safe access at Mybster will involve temporary restriction of the A9 to a single lane over the coming weeks until a new junction is completed, with temporary lights to manage the flow of traffic.
SHE Transmission’s Project Manager for the Dounreay-Mybster package of work Ian Clark said:
“Mybster substation has seen significant activity in recent years associated with connecting wind farms in the area, while Dounreay was renewed completely a few years ago. The work now beginning will build on the investment that has already been delivered and result in a stronger onshore transmission network for Caithness as a whole.
“At Mybster, the construction of a new site entrance is needed to provide suitable access for the duration of our work. We want to make sure arrangements are as safe as possible for our team and for all users of the road, but I would like to apologise for any short term inconvenience this may cause. Our contractor on site will be working hard to complete the new road junction safely while keeping delays to a minimum.”
