Riga Shipyard makes statement
To modernize "Latvian Shipping Company" fleet during the period from May to September RSY will be performing technical repair, painting works and new installation of satellite equipment on eight of their tankers. As of today, RSY has already accomodated four of these eight tankers – „Krisjanis Valdemars”, „Puze”, „Piltene” and „Ugale”. Majority of the repair works are possible only in dry dock.
In November, 2014 RSY started rather unusual shipbuilding project. The client, Norwegian company, requested a custom-built hull for underwater fauna research in the North Sea as well as Baltic Sea. These researches will be carried out by the Danish Technical University students, who will be assigned to the vessel. Such request will be executed for the first time in RSY history.
Hull is quite small in size – 17,24 meters long and 5,8 meters wide. Name of the vessel will be HAVFISKE directly translated from the Danish language means saltwater fish. The hull is planned for commissioning in late July.
On 8th of May 2015, Bureau Veritas issued RSY factory production control certificate attesting compliance with steel and aluminum structural element welding standard EN 1090-2 + A1:2011. One of the most popular RSY types of services are metal constructions. It is an integral part of ship repair and shipbuilding. This certificate will open the doors to a wider range of orders and new opportunities.
The situation in one of the oldest factories in Latvian began to improve starting from May 2014, after a substantial change in the composition of the Management Board of RSY. Since then, RSY has rapidly increased the amount of repaired vessels, newbuilding contracts aquired and RSY management pleases to announce the 2015 first half financial results, which by preliminary estimates suggest that the first half of the year will be closed with a profit.
