OREANDA-NEWS. July 16, 2015. Deputy Minister of Information Technology and Communications Vitalie Tarlev had a meeting with a delegation from Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology of the Republic of Korea (GIST), the institution, which had delegated this year to the Republic of Moldova 4 groups of volunteers - specialists in the IT field.

Within the meeting, the Deputy Minister reiterated Moldova’s interest in attracting international ICT experience, stating that: “At the moment, we benefit from the Korean experts’ advice in development of ministerial policies on cyber security strengthening. Earlier, the National Information Society Agency of Korea (NIA) contributed to the development of the National Strategy “Digital Moldova 2020”. We also have a strong partnership within the Moldovan-Korean Information Access Center. You are also very welcome to get involved in the IT Center of Excellence, which will be operational by the end of the year.”

In his turn, Professor Ko Kyeong-Do, the dean of the GIST College, expressed the interests of the Institute of Science and Technology to establish cooperation with the institutions of the Republic of Moldova, which, in his opinion, may present a high potential for development, pointing out that: “We shall mutually help in growing IT specialists. We are ready to support the bilateral exchanges of teachers and students. After the abolition of visa regime for Korean citizens, it is much easier to establish collaboration relations with the Republic of Moldova, and we want to benefit from this advantage.”

The Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology of the Republic of Korea is a relatively young educational institution with a history of just two decades. However, it managed to obtain the status of a national university and this year it entered international rankings, being awarded 4th place in Korea according to the training level of specialists in engineering and technology.
