OREANDA-NEWS. July 16, 2015. AREVA has signed a framework contract with the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) Shared Service Alliance to provide engineering services for nuclear site decommissioning.

This contract applies to twelve sites throughout the UK managed by the decommissioning company Magnox Ltd as well as the nuclear site at Dounreay in Northern Scotland, Radioactive Waste Management Limited’s site in Harwell and the Low-Level Waste Repository in West Cumbria.

The contract is made up of a number of segments: the first segment, won by AREVA and its British partner Atkins, includes engineering and design services for decommissioning projects. The second, won by AREVA’s British engineering consulting subsidiary, AREVA RMC, combines studies for the management of waste from nuclear site decommissioning.

This success demonstrates the NDA’s confidence in AREVA’s expertise in engineering studies and nuclear waste management. This contract will be executed by an integrated team benefitting from both the company’s international expertise and the local engineering contribution.

“This agreement confirms our engagement to contribute to future decommissioning projects for nuclear sites other than Sellafield, where our company is already active. With this new agreement, AREVA, a historic partner with the British nuclear industry, continues to expand its engineering activities in the United Kingdom,” said Guillaume Dureau, Senior Executive Vice President of AREVA’s Back End Business Group.
