OREANDA-NEWS. July 10, 2015. The State Agency for the Exclusion Zone Management must be eliminated. Instead it will be created a state concern on nuclear materials and a radiological reserve. Arseniy Yatsenyuk stated this during his working trip to the Chernobyl NPP, on Thursday, 9 July.

The Prime Minister underlined that there were no changes in the exclusion zone management system at all for 30 years: "We can see actually the Soviet Union and Soviet rules here."

He stressed the need to adopt a number of decisions, the first of which - the elimination of the State Agency for the Exclusion Zone Management.

"It must be replaced by a state concern on nuclear materials. It must include SOEs and state-owned companies that will work with nuclear materials, including the spent ones," the Prime Minister highlighted.

Arseniy Yatsenyuk has also supported the idea of creating a radiological reserve in the territory of the Chernobyl zone. For the evaluation of the radiological area, he said, it’s necessary to attract leading Western companies, "For 30 years too much has changed. And we need to consider the state of the environmental situation and confirm it by the world's best companies in order to make it legally recognized by the global community."

"We will have a new system of the zone management till the 30th anniversary of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster. We won’t actually have a zone, but a reserve and state concern that will be engaged in nuclear materials," the Prime Minister summed up.

He noted that the Cabinet of Ministers would establish an ad-hoc working group on these issues.

Arseniy Yatsenyuk added that this facility could become attractive for investors. He noted that, according to the management of the Chernobyl NPP, investors had already come here, especially from Germany, with the proposal to construct a solar power generation facility in the area.

"We are able to generate here electricity from solar power. We can implement a lot of investment projects here. And in order to overcome this corruption Soviet style system, we will completely change the concept of the exclusion zone management," the Prime Minister underlined.
