Denver Airport to Begin Bridge Work on Pena Boulevard
OREANDA-NEWS. Beginning Thursday, July 9, crews will reduce lane width and realign sections of inbound and outbound Pena Boulevard between approximately I-70 and East 64th Avenue as part of a project to rehabilitate 10 bridge structures along the roadway.
The project will repair damaged and deterioration concrete on the bridges, which are now more than 20 years old, and will include the removal and replacement of concrete bridge curbs and bridge railings at the following locations along Pena Boulevard (two bridge structures per location):
* First Creek
* East 56th Avenue
* Green Valley Ranch Boulevard / East 48th Avenue
* East 40th Avenue
* North Airport Boulevard
Crews will work on one side of the bridges at a time, realigning traffic as the work progresses. Concrete barriers will be in place between the construction zone and traffic lanes for safety. The traffic realignment will begin at 10 p.m. Thursday on outbound/southbound Pena Boulevard, and will be in place by 4 a.m. on Friday. Crews will then realign traffic on inbound/northbound Pena Boulevard beginning at 10 p.m. on Friday, with the realignment completed by 4 a.m. Saturday. Minor traffic impacts are expected as the lanes are moved.
Two lanes of traffic in each direction will be maintained during the day, with some singlelane closures overnight. The speed limit on Pena Boulevard will be reduced to 45 MPH throughout the construction zone for the duration of the \\$3.3 million project, which is expected to last through the end of October. Motorists are strongly encouraged to follow the posted speed limits, and allow extra time for travel through the construction zone.
