OREANDA-NEWS. July 09, 2015. We would like to sincerely thank the Macular Society (United Kingdom) which has just launched their first ever awareness week about macular degeneration. We commend them for helping raise public awareness about macular conditions, encouraging people to look after their eyes, and highlighting the importance of research funding which could eventually help to find a cure for macular conditions.

Persavita Ltd, a Cambridge-based company, believes that their product Saffron 2020, is the natural answer when it comes to maintaining eyesight as we age.

Dr Kim Julian, a qualified eye surgeon with 20 years of experience, and scientists at Persavita have developed Saffron 2020. This nutritional supplement is based on earlier research in 2010 that suggested saffron may help protect against failing eyesight in age-related macular degeneration (AMD); the most common cause of blindness in old people. In that study, conducted in Italy, patients with AMD experienced improvements in their vision after taking saffron pills for 3 months. AMD currently affects more than 600,000 Britons. This figure is expected to rise to 756,000 by 2020, according to the British Journal of Ophthalmology.

Saffron 2020 contains, among other important eye health ingredients, the same amount of high quality saffron (20 mg) used in the Italian study.

According to a series of studies, saffron may hold the key for preserving eyesight in AMD. The studies showed that "all patients reported an improvement in their quality of vision." Most notably, taking saffron supplements long term led to, "improvement in contrast and colour perception, reading ability, and vision at low luminances, all ultimately leading to a substantial improvement in the patients' quality of life."

The studies show that saffron supplementation represents a safe and natural solution to help preserve eye sight in old age, as notably there was "no adverse systemic side effects..."

Saffron 2020 has 9 other nutrients known to benefit the eyes; the natural carotenoids lutein and zeaxanthin which are found in vegetables, resveratrol which is also found in red grapes, and antioxidant vitamins A, B2, C, E and minerals which are known to support the eyes. Persavita has done its own research and demonstrated that the combination of saffron with resveratrol provides a novel synergistic effect in protecting retinal cells of the eye.

Saffron 2020 has been developed based on advanced research findings to tackle the eye disease in its early stages thus helping maintain eyesight and improve a sufferer's quality of life. There is no other similar product on the market.
