OREANDA-NEWS. On 7 July, students from Sungkyunkwan University in South–Korea visited Tartu, the University of Tartu, and the internationally successful mobile payment provider Fortumo for the first time to gather knowledge about entrepreneurship and entrepreneurial ability in Estonia and Tartu.

They were given an overview of the University of Tartu as the biggest research, development and education partner in the Baltic States and the university’s entrepreneurial cooperation was also discussed. Professor of the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration of the University of Tartu Maarja Vadi gave the students a lecture about Estonia’s economic development, entrepreneurship and cooperation with Asian countries.

In addition to lectures, the students visited the university campus, Toome Hill and the old town. At the end of the visit they met with the representatives of Fortumo.

There are about 34 500 students in Sungkyunkwan University. According to a ranking of South–Korean universities, it is the number one university in the country and it also holds the 16th place in the Asian University Rankings and it is 140th in the global university database World University Ranking. The South–Korean coordinator of the study visit is Langli Education.

In addition to the continuing education programme for South–Korean students, several other International Summer University programmes in social sciences, economics, law, political sciences and humanities will begin soon and the traditional Estonian language and culture courses will continue.

Hundreds of participants from different countries and regions will come to Tartu for the International Summer University courses.

The University of Tartu has organised continuing education programmes in the International Summer University since 1998.
