OREANDA-NEWS. Mr. William Magwood, Director General of Nuclear Energy Agency of Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD NEA) paid a visit to Leningrad NPP and construction site of Leningrad NPP-II, where he discussed the perspectives of joint work with his Russian colleagues.
 
At Leningrad nuclear power plant Mr. William Magwood took part in a meeting with the NPP management, visited to the operating unit including the unit control room, reactor and turbine departments, spent nuclear fuel storage and made acquaintance with the course of construction activities at the construction site of Leningrad NPP-II.
 
The nuclear power plant became the final point of Mr. W. Magwood visit to Russia, he also had meetings with the first persons of the Government of the Russian Federation, top management of State Corporation Rosatom. The main purpose of the visit of the Head of NEA was search for ways of expansion of cooperation between NEA and Russia. Mr. W. Magwood pointed out, that Nuclear Energy Agency of Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development is an inter-governmental organization of industrially developed countries, and Russia, doubtlessly, is a country with one of the most perspective nuclear power development programs in the world.
 
Leningrad NPP became the first Russian nuclear power plant visited by the Head of NEA. And that was not occasionally. «This is a unique large-scale NPP with RBMK type reactors. It is very different from everything I have seen before. It was very important for me to understand how the plant operates. This is an opportunity to gain some experience and discuss the areas of collaboration, as well as to know what activities are being implemented at Leningrad NPP after Fukushima events», - Mr. William Magwood said.
