KRET Began Producing President-S Onboard Defense Systems for Aircrafts
OREANDA-NEWS. Concern Radio-Electronic Technology (KRET), owned by the Rostec Corporation, began production of the onboard defense systems named the President-S for civilian aircrafts, which will provide effective counter missiles with infrared and optical homing technology.
The President-S onboard Defense system (BKO) takes counteraction against ground-to-air missiles and man-portable air defense systems (MANPADS). The tool will automatically detect missile launches and activate mechanisms designed to passively and actively disrupt infrared and radio wavelengths, resulting in homing missiles refocusing their aim toward decoys.
The President-S system was made in "blocks" (stations) that can be installed both inside and outside of the fuselage of military and civilian helicopters and aircrafts.
"Over the past decade, in local wars and conflicts, the main share of the aircraft and helicopters losses (80-90%) can be contributed to MANPADS missiles equipped with optical guidance. Stealth, endurance, and relative ease of use, ease of transport by all modes of transport, comparative low cost compared with SAM radar guidance systems, have all contributed to the proliferation of MANPADS worldwide, including in the Middle East and Africa. The Arab revolution in Africa led to the sprawling dissemination of MANPADS stockpiles among those countries, to the global and regional terrorist and extremist organizations and their factions. Therefore, the world is now more than ever before facing a greater threat of missile attacks on civilian aircrafts. The "President-S" system is able to effectively protect aircrafts from any such attack," stated Igor Nasenkov, First Deputy CEO of KRET.
"That is why our products are of great interest to our foreign partners, including those from the Middle East, Southeast Asia, and Latin America, all those that fly civilian aircraft all around the world," he added.
For long-distance aircraft, military transport and Tactical Aviation, as a forward-looking addition against radar homing missiles; Active towed radar trap (ABRL) is designed to provide individual protection for aircraft by diverting attacking missiles to the towed trap.
