OREANDA-NEWS.  On July 2-3, a delegation of the National Regulatory Agency for Electronic Communications and Information Technology (ANRCETI), headed by Corneliu Jaloba, Deputy Director, is taking part in the Summit of telecom regulators of Europe and Latin America. The event is taking place in Barcelona, Spain and is hosted by the Spanish National Commission of Markets and Competition (CNMC).

For the first time, the summit brings together delegates from four organizations: Body of European Regulators for Electronic Communications (BEREC), Forum of Latin American Telecommunications Regulators (REGULATEL), European Mediterranean Regulators Group (EMERG) and Networks of Electronic Communications Regulators from Eastern Partnership Countries (EaPeReg), ANRCETI being member of the latter. The aim of this Summit is to build a constructive dialogue between BEREC and counterparts in Mediterranean basin, Latin America and Eastern Partnership (EaP).

Besides the exchange of experiences between regulators’ delegations, the summit will discuss the challenges of the new Internet ecosystem for the telecommunications sector. The summit agenda includes current issues related to access and connectivity to next generation networks (NGN), their deployment in rural and remote areas, development of broadband services and quality standards from the point of view of consumers. At the last session of the summit, ANRCETI representatives will present the evolution of broadband services in Moldova and level of consumers’ satisfaction with services.

By the end of the summit, participants decide upon the mechanism of cooperation between the four organizations and their future activities.

In early December 2014, in Brussels, the Presidents of BEREC and EaPeReg signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation between the two organizations. Its aim is to encourage cooperation between the parties and support their efforts in order to effectively address current and future challenges of the process of regulation of electronic communications.

EaPeReg Network consists of the six EaP countries (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine). The Network was launched in September 2012, in Chisinau meeting of EaP regulators. EaPeReg’s mission is to ensure regular exchanges of information and experience between regulators from EaP countries and EU, harmonization of the national legal framework of EaP countries with EU standards and the application of best European regulatory practices.
