ROSATOM presented advanced nuclear technologies at the workshop in Rio de Janeiro
In the workshop took part the representatives of leading companies in nuclear industry of Russia, working actively in the foreign market: United company ASE-NIAEP-AEP, Rusatom Overseas Inc, JSC Akkuyu Nuclear, TVEL, Science and Innovations, Federal Center for Nuclear and Radiation Safety (JSC FCNRS), Uranium One, United Innovation Corporation. Managers and representatives of leading enterprises and institutions of nuclear industry of Brazil, as well the president of Brazilian Association for the development of nuclear activities (ABDAN), top managers of Electronuclear, Camargo Correa, NUCLEP, INB, Odebrecht, National Commission of nuclear energy in Brazil, Engevix, the Center of Innovation, economics and education (FGV), Itau BBA, Federal University of Rio de Janeiro took part at the event.
General Consul of Russian Federation in Rio de Janeiro Andrey Budaev opened the event with a welcoming word, mentioned that the organization and realization of a workshop for the partners from Brazil is an evidence of a successful development of cooperation between Russia and Brazil in the sphere of peaceful use of atomic energy. A. Budaev congratulated Rosatom with a company’s registration in Latin America and expressed his confidence that with the opening of Rosatom’s office in Rio de Janeiro the cooperation will acquire a new impulse and will serve the conclusion of mutually beneficial contracts already in the near future.
In his welcoming remarks A. Muller, the President of Brazilian Association for the development of nuclear activities ABDAN noted the importance of nuclear power, not only in terms of providing the industry and the population of Brazil clean energy, but also to improve the socio-economic level of the country. A. Muller mentioned that apart from electric energy, nuclear technologies today are able to bring to Brazil applied decisions in the sphere of nuclear medicine, agriculture, radiation technologies, desalination and water-purification.
The workshop was dedicated to a Russian experience in the use and development of nuclear technologies and the decisions in all directions. The director of “Rosatom Latina America” S. Krivolapov presented a report, dedicated to competitive advantages of Rosatom in an international market and regional expertise, marking main orientations of work of ROSATOM’s office in Brazil. Representatives of JSC “Rusatom Overseas Inc” presented integrated proposal of Rosatom to construct NPP, and most effective financial decisions, applied by ROSATOM in the construction NPP in foreign countries. On the example of NPP Akkuyu, representatives of JSC “Akkuyu Nuclear“ demonstrated main characteristics of the NPP construction according to the BOO model.
The representatives of the United company ASE-NIAEP-AEP presented reports about the newest decisions, applied by Rosatom in the sphere of engineering and NPP construction, radioactive waste and spent nuclear fuel management (as well the competences of Rosatom in the construction and operation of facilities for the storage and processing of radioactive waste and spent nuclear fuel), back-end management and decommissioning services, the experience of Rosatom in the sphere of working out projects and the construction of the research reactors. VVER technology, security aspects and new technologies, applied in the construction of generation III+ projects were presented in the theme of a separate report.
Within the workshop participants were able to get acquainted with the advanced technologies which applied in the construction of complex engineering objects, in particular management of Multi-D projects. This technology is one of the competitive advantages of ROSATOM in the world market, the use of this technology reduces the timeframe of design, construction and erection works with the simultaneous increase in labor productivity, quality of work and safety at nuclear power engineering facilities, as well as leads to the project cost reduction. Multi-D technology helps Rosatom to achieve a high efficiency and stability of such important indicators as deadline, quality and budget.
High interest was expressed to the experience of ROSATOM in radiation technologies as well as applied solutions in the field of nuclear medicine, water purification and desalination of sea water. Also, the reports on localization, cooperation in the supply of fuel, uranium mining and processing were very interesting for the audience.
Within the program of the seminar the top managers of Brazilian companies presented their reports. Among them, the planning director of the company Eletronuclear, Gimarais Leone, who presented the main characteristics of the national nuclear program and prospects for Brazil to implement the plans for the construction of new nuclear power plants in the country. L.Gimarais noted that the development of nuclear energy in Brazil is an integral part of the full program for the diversification of the energy matrix in order to further address the issues of growing energy consumption in the country. At the same time, according to the speaker, the criterion of the price for electricity will be one of the main proposals in the competitive selection of companies for the construction of new NPP's. L.Guimaraes welcomed the appearance of Rosatom's headquarter in Latin America, noting that ROSATOM is the world leader in the nuclear industry and the emergence of such important player in Brazil will further enhance cooperation between two countries in the peaceful uses of nuclear energy.
For reference:
Russian-Brazilian cooperation in the nuclear field is governed by the Agreement between the Governments of Russian Federation and Federative Republic of Brazil on cooperation in the peaceful uses of atomic energy of 15 September 1994. On 21st of July, 2009, The Memorandum of Understanding was also signed between Brazil and Russia.
In February 2015 JSC Isotope, a subsidiary of Rosatom, signed a contract with the National Nuclear Energy Commission of Brazil (CNEN) on supplies of the Russian Mo-99.
On July 14, 2014 during the visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to Federative Republic of Brazil, a Memorandum between JSC "Rusatom Overseas" and Camargo Correa was signed on cooperation in construction of storage facility for spent nuclear fuel and nuclear power plant in Brazil. On August 11, 2014 Rusatom International Network and the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) signed an agreement on cooperation. Currently, the parties are working on the implementation of mutually beneficial scientific, educational and business projects. In June 2015 Rosatom International Network registered office of ROSATOM in Rio de Janeiro, ROSATOM Am?rica Latina, which will be the headquarters of the state corporation in Latin America. Rosatom International Network is a subsidiary of ROSATOM, and was created for the deployment and management of regional centers of Rosatom worldwide. The company's mission is to support the activities of departments of ROSATOM in overseas markets, searching for new business opportunities, promote products and services of enterprises of the nuclear industry in the global market.
