OREANDA-NEWS. July 02, 2015. One of the key types of Industrial stocks are those that provide Commercial and Professional Services. The other two categories are capital goods and transportation, the latter of which was discussed in a Market Update (click here).

Commercial and Professional Services as defined by the Global Industry Classification Standard (GICS®) include:

  • Commercial Services & Supplies which includes companies that provide commercial printing, environmental and facilities maintenance, office, and other diversified support services such as commercial cleaning, dining and catering, equipment repair, industrial maintenance, storage and warehousing, transaction and uniform rental.
  • Companies engaged in human capital management, and research and consulting services are classified under Professional Services.

Singapore Exchange (SGX) lists 30 actively traded Commercial and Professional Services stocks with a combined market capitalisation of S\\$4.7 billion.  The 10 largest active stocks of the industry group have a combined market capitalisation of S\\$3.9 billion. In the year thus far, these 10 companies averaged a 20.1% price gain, and dividend boosted returns of 21.9%. The average performance is skewed because of performances by Global Tech (Holdings) and Riverstone Holdings. The median total return of the 10 stocks was 4.0%. This compares to the average year-to-date price gain of 4.3% and dividend adjusted returns of 5.3% for all 30 companies in the industry group.

The five best performers of the 10 in the year-to date were Global Tech (Holdings) (+122.2%), Riverstone Holdings (+75.9%), Cogent Holdings (+23.3%), Kingsmen Creatives (+9.6%), and United Envirotech (+4.7%).
