OREANDA-NEWS. Ingleside Ethylene, a joint venture between Mexichem and Occidental Chemical, awarded an $115mn contract to engineering firm CB&I to build an ethylene storage facility in conjunction with Ingleside's previously announced 550,000 t/yr ethane cracker near Point Comfort, Texas.

In May the joint venture received necessary permits from the US Environmental Protection Agency and Texas Commission on Environmental Quality for the project, which will be located between Point Comfort and Freeport in Markham, Texas.

Most of the ethylene produced at the facility will supply OxyChem's vinyl chloride monomer (VCM) plant in Ingleside. The VCM will then be delivered to Mexichem for production of polyvinyl chloride resin (PVC resin) and PVC pipeline systems.

CB&I is also providing the engineering, procurement and construction for the cracker, which is scheduled to begin operating in the first quarter of 2017.
