OREANDA-NEWS. ChelPipe and Severstal have held a coordination meeting dedicated to strategic partnership, summing up the H1 2015 results.
The companies' specialists have discussed the technical interaction, discipline in the order execution, and qualitative properties of steel. One of the achievements in the joint work of ChelPipe and Severstal in the first half-year is cutting down the flats delivery from Cherepovets to Chelyabinsk from 15 to 9 days. Besides, the companies have outlined a plan for the future. In particular, they have agreed on introducing an internal electronic document management.

One of the important joint objectives is supplies of hot-rolled plates from the 5000 rolling mill of the pipe shop at the Cherepovets Steel Mill (part of Severstal Russian Steel division) with barcodes containing all the necessary order info for the Vysota 239 plant. This project will help improve the fabrication of large-bore pipes: the pipe producers will be able to automatically, without support documents, read all the sheet parameters off the barcode, i.e.: steel grade, sheet size, heat number, etc. All the information will be further available to end users which can trace the entire manufacturing process from steelmaking to ready-made products.

"Coordination meetings have become a good practice. They are equally important both for the pipe producers and steel suppliers", said Boris Kovalenkov, ChelPipe Group's Sales Director. "Direct participation of production and process engineers and sales professionals in the meetings helps identify ‘bottlenecks’ in the joint operation of the companies, improve the interaction efficiency, which is not always possible at a distance'.

The parties of the meeting have shown interest to supplies of joint products for major Fuel & Energy projects, and agreed to develop new ones. The companies enjoy successful experience of cooperative pipe supplies for the Southern Corridor and Power of Siberia mainlines, for the construction of a football stadium in Samara.

"Our strategic objective is to provide ChelPipe with high-quality products for pipe fabrication, and that allows us to jointly take part in the country's major pipeline projects", says Dmitri Goroshkov, Marketing and Sales Director (Severstal Russian Steel) about the results of the meeting.

ChelPipe and Severstal are cooperating under the Agreement on Strategic Partnership, effective from 2013 to 2015. The metallurgists are supplying the pipe producers with hot-rolled sheets from 2000, 2800, 5000 rolling mills, to manufacture oil and mainline pipes, and moreover, hot and cold-rolled coils.
