Nomura to Invest in BDO Unibank Subsidiary
OREANDA-NEWS. Nomura Holdings, Inc. ( “ Nomura ” ) and BDO Unibank, Inc. (“ BDO ”) today announced that they have signed a definitive agreement under which Nomura will invest in PCIB Securities Inc. ( “ PCIB ” ), a wholly owned subsidiary of BDO, subject to local regulatory approval and certain other closing conditions.
Under the terms of the agreement , BDO will hold a 51 percent stake in PCIB, with the remaining 49 percent being held by Nomura. The new company will become an equity - method affiliate of Nomura.
The Philippines is one of the fastest growing markets for the retail brokerage business in Asia, and the new c ompany will initially focus on providing online trading services for local stocks to individual investors in the Philippines. Going forward, the new company will also provide service s to a broad range of investor s looking at cross - border investment opportu nities.
The primary objective of the joint venture is to leverage the strengths of Nomura and BDO to contribute to the further growth of the capital markets in t he Philippines and establish solid earning foundations in this fast growing market.
In addition, through establishment of the new company Nomura aims to enhance its presence in the Philippine s and create further synerg ies overall between Nomura ’ s R etail and W holesale business es in Asia ex - Japan.
Nomura does not expect th e investment to have a material impact on its consolidated results.
