St. Petersburg automotive industry can retain last year's production volume
OREANDA-NEWS. St. Petersburg government expects that production volume of the city automobile plants in 2015 will be at the level of the previous year, Chairman of the Committee on Industrial Policy and Innovations in St. Petersburg Maxim Meiksin told to TASS agency.
In 2014, Toyota, GM, Nissan and Hyundai plants in St. Petersburg produced 361,400 vehicles, which is 8% less than a year ago. GM plant will have been put into mothball by the end of June.
According to Auto-Dealer-SPb agency, in January-May 2015, Toyota, GM, Nissan and Hyundai plants in St. Petersburg produced 125,600 new passenger cars, which is 24% less than during the first five months of 2014. The dynamics of the decline in car production started to decrease – e.g., it was 27% in the first quarter and now it is 24%, Auto-Dealer-SPb general director Mikhail Chaplygin said. The share of St. Petersburg automotive industry in the total Russian automobile production grows again. If in the first quarter of the year it was 20.1%, during four months it came up to 21%, and reached 22.1% as per the results of January-May.
