Russians still dislike diesel
OREANDA-NEWS.According to AUTOSTAT analytic agency, in January-May 2015 the share of diesel passenger cars was only 6.8% of the Russian market. Last year, diesel cars accounted for 7.6% of the total sales. We should mention that diesel vehicles generate more than a half of the market in many countries of Western Europe.
According to the latest report on the Russian automotive market, the greatest number of diesel versions is offered in SUV and crossover segment. In 2015, the share of diesel vehicles in SUV segment was 15%, while a year ago it was a half a percent higher.
The leaders in the diesel segment in the Russian market are Volvo and Land Rover. Three-quarters (75.8% and 74.7%, respectively), of these brands’ vehicles are sold with diesel engines. Diesel versions generate 44.2% of BMW sales. Over 30% of vehicles have diesel engines in the model ranges of Jeep (34,1%), Porsche (32%) and SsangYong (30,8%) in our market. TOP-10 also includes Mercedes-Benz (25.9%), Toyota (19.8%), Mitsubishi (19.6%), Audi (14.6%) and Peugeot (12.1%).
We should also mention that the Russian market has a number of models with diesel as the main engine in the model lineup. They are the Mitsubishi L200 (100%), the Toyota Hilux (100%), the Volvo XC70 (99%), the Land Rover Discovery (98%) and the Audi Q7 (96%). In addition, there are about fifteen models with more than half of sales in the Russian market coming from diesel versions. The most popular crossovers such as the Toyota Rav4, the Kia Sportage, the Renault Duster, have less than 10% diesel versions in their sales.
