OREANDA-NEWS. June 29, 2015. SSE described Argyll and Bute Council’s decision to consent the repowering of Tangy wind farm, near Campbeltown, as ‘good news’ for investment potential and local communities.

The proposal will see Tangy’s 22 existing turbines replaced with 15 modern machines; almost doubling the installed generating capacity of the wind farm.  The upgrade allows SSE to reuse the existing site while delivering significantly more renewable energy but with seven fewer turbines than at present, made possible through advances in wind turbine design, technology and efficiency.

Karen Anderson, SSE’s Development Manager said: “Following extensive consultation with local people and key stakeholders, detailed site studies and strategic project design, SSE is delighted to receive planning permission to repower Tangy. It is a major step forward for the project, which has the potential to offer investment to the rural economy in and around Campbeltown as an important addition to SSE’s renewable generation portfolio.”

“As a responsible developer SSE is fully committed to supporting local and Scottish businesses and our intention is to source all of the project’s wind turbine tower sections from local manufacturer – and SSE joint venture partner – Wind Towers Scotland Limited.  SSE is the UK’s leading generator of energy from renewables and there is no doubt the project will help to generate important economic benefit for local communities as well as secure investment in the region.”

Engagement with local stakeholders and community groups will continue as plans for construction progress.  Those seeking further information about the project should contact Project Liaison Manager, Pauline Allison on 0141 224 7192 or by email at pauline.allison@sse.com.
