The company Modern Expo is a leading manufacturer and supplier for POS equipment, shelf systems, displays, shop fittings and cooling systems in Central and Eastern Europe. Founded in 1993, the company employs approximately 2.000 employees today. Since 22 years the company has only one direction: Upwards.

A good situation for Uwe Nestler, Country Manager of Modern-Expo in the German office. Since 2010 he has been entrusted with the installation and set-up of the new office in Berlin and the successful capture of the German market. Up to this time, he was employed at a major retail group. There he has been responsible for the East-European market and managed the store equipment for supermarkets for two years. During this time, he got to know the company Modern-Expo. "I was impressed by the 

 hands-on mentality of the owners and the employees of Modern Expo. The company is growing continuously and the main production plant in Lutsk, in the Ukraine, is increasing sequentially. This growing also refers to our office in Germany. In 2010 I founded the German office together with only one employee. Meanwhile there are nine employees and we are still seeking support for our team. Just to give you an idea about the size of Modern Expo: In 2014, the company generated 120 million Euro sales worldwide."

The company grows

Those are impressive figures in contrast to the political situation in Ukraine, where the main site of production of Modern-Expo is situated. "It is comprehensible, that potential customers, due to the difficult situation in eastern Ukraine, ask whether Modern-Expo is a reliable supplier. We address these concerns with the greatest possible transparency and gladly invite to our production facility in Lutsk, in western Ukraine, near the Polish border. We do this with a clear conscience, because Lutsk is more than 1,200 kilometers distant from Luhansk in the east of Ukraine. Aside from that, it is more interesting to appraise our modern factory with more than 65,000 square meters of production area and with 1,770 employees. All products meet the common environmental- and social standards and in many areas also significantly exceeds them." Furthermore, other manufacturing plants in Dnepropretrovsk (Ukraine), Vitebsk (Belarus) and Lublin (Poland) are joining.

Extensive manufacturing capabilities

In Lutsk, POS-relevant products, such as standard shelving systems, checkouts and permanent displays are produced, as Nestler tells: "There are POS tools manufactured on an industrial scale. In an ultra-modern laboratory materials can be tested and developed. Several fully automated powder coating systems are available for metal processing; as well as numerous bending machines, laser systems, welding robots, punching machines, roll forming equipment and galvanizing lines. Similarly extensive production- and refining capacities are available for different materials such as glass, wood, acrylic and plastic. To illustrate our capabilities with the help of an example: During the last years, our biggest roll out included the delivery of shelving systems and associated equipment for over 1.800 locations in Europe.”

Besides the extensively production capacity, Nestler sees the strength of Modern-Expo also in the creativity. "We have a design lab with young, wild and creative designers. They repeatedly develop ideas that are no mainstream. The combination of vertical integration and creativity convinces customers”, says Nestler. "A current project, for example, is the revision of the side decorations and the rotary board for the beauty specialist Parsa. Those are used as promotion zones in different retail chains, like in department stores or supermarkets. That case shows how companies, like Parsa Beauty, trust in Modern-Expo as a reliable partner.
