OREANDA-NEWS. June 26, 2015. Alexander Ermolenko, Partner, FBK Legal, took part in the work of the VI Legal Forum of “White Nights”, the theme of which is “The law in the domain of culture”.

The participants in the event organized by the Federation Council Committee for Constitutional Legislation and State Construction and the Government of the Archangelsk Oblast discussed the issues related to the ethical basis of law and law enforcement.

Alexander Ermolenko in his report of “The professional culture of Soviet and post-Soviet legal practitioners and its role in the generation of a constitutional state” dwelt on the problems of professional activities of lawyers in modern society. FBK Legal Partner thinks that in the environment where the attitude to the legal norms as a categorical imperative has not been formed yet a legal practitioner turns out to be in a complicated situation. His professional activity is assessed in terms of efficient/inefficient and sometimes it is the illegal methods that turn out to be efficient.

“The role of professional ethics under such conditions increases. The lawyer should not only be guided by it in his actions but also influence public opinion so that illegal actions were unacceptable. We actually work now not as lawyers but as people creating “the infrastructure of law”” added Alexander Ermolenko.
