Construction Completed on Highest Overpass at Businovskaya Interchange
OREANDA-NEWS. Overpass #5 at the Businovskaya Traffic Interchange on the Moscow Ring Road (MRR) is open to traffic. The new overpass, which was built by specialists from PJSC Mostotrest, provides left-hand access from Moscow (Festivalnaya Street) to the outer side of the MRR and was the final stage in work to erect the only five-level traffic interchange in Russia.
The reconstruction of the Businovskaya Traffic Interchange is the most ambitious infrastructure project in the Russian capital. The project includes the construction of the main section of an 8-lane motor road; 7 overpasses (including 5 exit overpasses with the length of about 5 km); 12 exit roads of the junction with the length of more than 6 km; and reconstruction of the existing flyover on the MRR over Oktyabrskaya railway.
The new overpass is 1.3 km long and is the highest section of the Businovskaya Traffic Interchange: the superstructure has a maximum height of approximately 35 m above the MRR. It was installed with cyclic longitudinal sliding and was completed without stopping traffic on the MMR within record time of four months.
The construction of the Businovskaya Traffic Interchange provided an entrance to the new M-11 Moscow-St. Petersburg Highway and abated the traffic load on the main section of the M-10 "Russia" Highway near Khimki, ensure transport links between the city and the Moscow Region, ensure access to the left bank of Khimki, connect the MRR and the Northern Beltway in Moscow.
PJSC Mostotrest and the state-run company Russian Highways signed a contract to reconstruct the Businovskaya Traffic Interchange in November 2011.
About 1,500 builders were employed daily at the interchange. Construction was carried out without stopping traffic in the area, including on the MRR and in close proximity to Oktyabrskaya railway lines.
Mostotrest employed unique construction technology and advanced equipment. In particular, it used pile-driving devices to build pier foundations near the high-pressure gas pipeline; cyclic longitudinal sliding of monolithic superstructures over the MRR; sliding of superstructures on small radius curves; continuous concreting units at reinforced superstructures; unique crane equipment with lifting capacity of 500 tons.
According to project manager Dmitry Tsarev, Mostotrest specialists performed a very difficult task - the construction of a highly complex five-level traffic interchange in the shortest possible time without restricting traffic on the MRR and over the Oktyabrskaya railway. The project is the most ambitious in Moscow and has helped traffic problems in one of the most problematic areas of the capital. The launch of the interchange increased the capacity of the section due to a significant expansion in the road and the construction of new exits, provided access to the Moscow-St. Petersburg Highway in Moscow and increased accessibility to Sheremetyevo Airport.
