OREANDA-NEWS. June 23, 2015. In the near future such documents as the  ID card of the citizen of the Republic of Moldova, including the electronic ID card, driver’s licenses and vehicle registration certificates, will be manufactured on the polycarbonate basis. This decision was approved by the Government today, June 16th.

“The Ministry of Information Technology and Communications initiated this project with the aim of increasing the security level of the official card-type documents issued by the State Enterprise “Center for State Information Resources “Registru” and upgrade the production technology”, the Acting Minister of Information Technology and Communications Pavel Filip explained  at the meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers. The production technologies of documents made of polycarbonate are used in many European countries, among which are Great Britain, Germany, France, Italy, Holland, Romania and Bulgaria.

The implementation of new technologies for documents production will not affect their price. “At the same time the use of new security features will minimize the possibility of documents falsification”, Pavel Filip specified. The new technology involves the use of laser equipment for imprinting the data onto the internal layer of the card.

The implementation of the project will allow the Republic of Moldova to benefit from a modern system of production and personalization of identity cards, driver’s licenses and vehicle registration certificates. This system is based on the use of the next generation materials and equipment, in compliance with European directives on document security.

The documents issued earlier will be available until the end of their validity period.
