Transstroymekhanizatsiya completes reconstruction of the Rostov-on-Don airport
The work started on April 1, 2015. Within the scope of the project, the company carried out repairs and reinforcement of the airport runway coating (2,500m in length and 45 m in width), the reconstruction of taxiways and shoulders, the expansion of runway overruns, replacement of lighting equipment, etc. in 2 months.
The execution of this project was unique, since the reconstruction was completed by setting up “windows” (from 8.30am to 8.00pm daily) without closing the airport. In order to do this, the company agreed on a minute-by-minute schedule for reconstruction with the customer and airport management. In order to keep to the schedule, all machines, mechanisms and transport were 100% backed up, making immediate replacement possible in case of malfunction.
Moreover, in order to keep to the tight construction deadlines, two mobile asphalt concrete factories with total capacity of 560 tons per hour were launched at the airport. The concrete mixes used during construction and measures taken for packing and sealing the mixes allowed the airport to resume takeoffs and landings 3 hours after the end of the work shift.
The carrying capacity of the runway was increased significantly after the reconstruction project was completed. The airport is now capable of receiving heavy aircraft such as Boeing 737-800, А-320 and others.
