Procter & Gamble Celebrates 10 Years of Sharing the Comforts of Home With Habitat for Humanity Families
OREANDA-NEWS. June 19, 2015. Procter & Gamble (NYSE: PG) is celebrating a decade of working with Habitat for Humanity on the construction, repair or cleaning of homes. What began as a grassroots effort in a small town in the United States has grown into a global partnership, involving 2,000 P&G employees in 18 countries around the world.
“P&G brands have always been in the business of helping families keep their houses clean and feeling like home. Through our partnership with Habitat for Humanity, we’re bringing that same pride and comfort to families in need of secure housing,” said Steve Bishop, P&G Group President and Habitat supporter. “Whether it’s helping a family in Canada build a new home or cleaning homes for the elderly in Singapore, we’re proud of the difference P&G people and brands are making in the lives of families around the world.”
By providing products, education and solutions for home care, P&G brands are helping Habitat families create the experience of home by sharing the resources and knowledge necessary for upkeep and cleaning. Through this partnership, P&G employees work side-by-side with Habitat families to build or repair their homes and share kits of P&G brands on move-in day. Kits include products such as Mr. Clean, Swiffer, Bounty, Charmin and Tide – which will help families take care of their home for up to six months.
“We are grateful to have such a meaningful, growing partnership with P&G and their brands,” said Jonathan Reckford, CEO of Habitat for Humanity International. “In addition to providing funding and volunteers, P&G is sharing essential products that will help families maintain and enjoy their homes.”
Amy Matthews, DIY expert and host of Renovation Raiders, Sweat Equity, Bathroom Renovations, Blog Cabin and This New House has partnered to raise awareness of Habitat’s work and share tips to help families overcome the challenges of maintaining a new home. Matthews has been an active volunteer with Habitat for Humanity affiliates since 2007.
“Over the years, I have been committed to working with Habitat for Humanity to offer a hand up to families in need of safe, decent, affordable housing,” said Amy Matthews. “Now, thanks to the partnership with P&G and its brands, we have the opportunity to offer added resources and education to help new homeowners make any living space feel like home.”
P&G has provided support to Habitat affiliates and national offices since 2004. The company joined Habitat for Humanity International in a global partnership in 2013. This year, more than 900 P&G employees will volunteer their time to help families in Brazil, Poland, the United States, South Africa, Thailand and other countries realize their dreams of homeownership. Others will work to help families learn about the tasks of owning a home. Some of this year’s projects include:
- In Hungary, P&G volunteers will assist in apartment renovations with families currently living in transitional housing institutions.
- Ten houses in Brazil will receive improvement projects thanks to technical construction and microloans.
- P&G volunteers will assist in the construction of three housing improvement projects in Colombia and provide healthy house training for local residents.
- In Vietnam and the Philippines, P&G volunteers will help build seven homes. In addition, roughly 73 families will receive water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) training to promote healthy habits.
- In Singapore, P&G employees will clean seven homes to assist people who are older or with disabilities.
- In Poland, P&G volunteers will share tips on how to keep energy costs low.
