OREANDA-NEWS. June 19, 2015. Four intrepid members of the Scottish Hydro Electric Transmission (SHE Transmission) team from the company’s Glasgow office set out last week to conquer Ben Nevis for Quarriers - one of Scotland largest social care charities.

Graham Brown, Kirsty Timney, Candy Thorp and Abdallah Abdaelbaset used their ‘Be the Difference’ day to tackle the highest mountain in the British Isles, along with their colleague John Cuthbert and Kirsty and Candy’s partners, Grant and Clayton.

The seven strong team scaled the 1,344 metre high peak in the Lochaber area of the Scottish Highlands to raise money for the Renfrewshire Head Injury Service, a charity which helps people with head or brain injuries.

Graham explains why the team decided to use their ‘Be the Difference’ day to help boost the charity’s funds:

“Quarriers Renfrewshire Head Injury Service provides an invaluable service, from dealing with social workers to making sure benefits are allocated to those who are entitled to them and finding appropriate accommodation. It’s an organisation close to my heart as my mum suffered brain haemorrhages when she was younger and they have been an enormous help in providing her – and many others – with the support needed to live independently.

“They even run a weekly social event, called The Sunshine Club, and I’ll be going there later this month to talk about the climb, show some photographers from the day and reveal the amount we raised.”

Graham and his team will be raising money until that time through their JustGiving page - www.justgiving.com/outage-planning.

Alice Drife, Chief Executive of Quarriers said: “We’re so grateful when kind-hearted supporters take on challenges like this for Quarriers.  People we support at our Renfrewshire Head Injury Service face tough challenges every day and we’ll be sure to put their hard-earned donations to the best possible use.”

Since the launch of SSE's ‘Be the Difference’ volunteering programme, it has helped over 2,500 projects, with SHE Transmission’s employees dedicating their time to projects that matter in the communities where they live and work.
