BASF Will Attend World Forum for Chemical Technology
OREANDA-NEWS. BASF will attend World Forum for chemical technology and
process engineering at the ACHEMA exhibition in Frankfurt from June 15 -
19, 2015 on Stand C37 in Hall 8. BASF's Competence Center Engineering
and Maintenance will present selected technical products and services
along with innovations in the fields of high-pressure technology and
surface technology.
In chemical production, top priority is given
to ensuring safety, environmental protection and maximum plant
availability. This demands reliable, accurate measurements for
monitoring production plants, and the pressure sensor that we have
developed fulfills these standards. "The optimum shape of the sensor and
its flush-mounted membrane ensure that dangerous product deposits are
avoided", said Heinz-Jьrgen Kьhn from BASF's Technical Expertise Center
for Fittings and Metal Technology. The sensor has been adapted to
measure pressures of up to 3600 bar by means of innovative patented lens
design. This allows for redundant measurement with multiple connections
for measuring temperature and/or pressure in reactors and piping
systems.
The highly responsive thermocouples supplied by BASF
have been shown to perform reliably in many LDPE plants worldwide. They
have now been optimized by BASF's high-pressure experts for use at
pressures of up to 3600 bar, and they respond 2.5 to 3 times more
quickly to changes in temperature than conventional models. The special
manufacturing process also ensures a high level of safety.
At the
ACHEMA exhibition, BASF is also focusing on high-pressure equipment for
use in the conventional pressure range of 325 bar. BASF manufactures
for customers equipment for up to 300 tons, up to 25 m in length and
with a diameter of 4 m for use at temperatures ranging from minus 150 °C
to plus 500 °C, depending on the specification.
At BASF
high-pressure technology has a long tradition: for more than 100 years,
the company has been successfully developing and manufacturing
components and systems for high-pressure applications. In 1931, Carl
Bosch was awarded the Nobel Prize for Chemistry for his innovations in
the field of high-pressure industrial chemistry. Today, BASF operates
more than 40 high-pressure plants worldwide that run at pressures of up
to 3600 bar. As well as process control components, the wide range of
products supplied by BASF's centers of expertise for mechanical
engineering includes high-pressure equipment, valves, fittings and pipes
for use at working pressures of up to 3600 bar. BASF is the only
manufacturer in the world that employs its own high-pressure components
in its own production plants.
At this year's ACHEMA, the
Technical Center for Polymer and Surface Technology will concentrate on
functional coatings based on polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE). They have
excellent properties and they perform particularly well on screw
fasteners. "They prevent contact corrosion and ensure that screws and
bolts do not seize up, even after many years in service. This enables
maintenance intervals to be reduced and improves the safety of
maintenance work substantially", said Dr. Norbert Krollmann, head of the
BASF Technical Expertise Center for Polymer and Surface Technology.
BASF's
recruitment staff will again be in attendance on the stand to inform
newly qualified engineers and professionals about the career
opportunities at BASF. "We are always looking for enthusiastic graduates
and engineers with work experience", said Irina Plapp from Talent
Resourcing Production & Engineering Functions at BASF. For instance,
the BASF Competence Center for Engineering & Maintenance offers the
best possible start to a career in engineering: more than 900
specialists currently work there in the fields of chemical engineering,
electrical engineering, automation, mechanical engineering and civil
engineering, and the numbers are continuing to grow
