OREANDA-NEWS. June 10, 2015. Chubu Electric Power Co., Inc. (President & Director: Akihisa Mizuno; Address: 1, Higashi-shincho, Higashi-ku, Nagoya) and Toho Gas Co., Ltd. (President: Kouichi Yasui; Address: 19-18 Sakurada-cho, Atsuta-ku, Nagoya) together operate “Chita LNG Terminal” in Chita City, Aichi prefecture. The LNG terminal receives, stores, and re-gasifies imported LNG (liquefied natural gas).

This is to announce that on May 5 the Chita LNG Terminal received its 3,500th LNG tanker, the “Al Zubarah” from Qatar.

About 38 years have passed since the Chita LNG Terminal received its first LNG, imported from Indonesia in September 1977. Through the years, Chita LNG Terminal has operated without accident or incident to succeed in receiving 3,500 LNG tankers. The total amount of LNG unloaded at the terminal has reached about 250 million tons.

Chubu Electric Power and Toho Gas import LNG from Qatar and Indonesia to use as fuel for power generation and as material for city gas, ensuring a stable supply of electricity and city gas while helping to conserve the environment. Chita LNG Terminal received about 8.4 million tons of LNG (128 tankers) in FY2014. It is one of the largest LNG terminals in Japan.

Chita LNG Terminal consists of: Chita LNG Joint Terminal, built by Chubu Electric Power and Toho Gas in 1977; Chita LNG Office of Chita L.N.G. Co., Ltd. opened in 1983; and Chita Midorihama Works of Toho Gas, opened in November 2001. These three entities work closely with each other to ensure efficient operation by, for instance, adjusting LNG receiving and shipping schedules among themselves.

Both companies will continue to endeavor to deliver a stable supply of energy that is essential in our daily lives, as well as contribute to the development of society.
