Volvo Car Group announces May retail sales: global retail sales of 39,919 cars
Western European sales grew by 8.6 per cent, mainly driven by Southern European markets and strong demand for the Volvo V40 and XC60 models. Spain and Italy were up by 54.7 and 13.7 per cent, respectively. Sweden retains its strong market share at close to 20 per cent with the Volvo XC60 and XC70 models as best-selling models.
Volvo Cars’ largest market is China where retail sales amounted to 6,967 units in May with sales for the locally produced Volvo S60L and XC60 models up 11.5 and 12.6 per cent, respectively. Sales in the US market were flat with 5,023 retail deliveries with the XC60 and S60 models the top sellers.
“I am very pleased to see the positive reception from customers and media for our new products which are reaching showrooms now,” said Alain Visser, Senior Vice President Marketing, Sales and Customer Service at Volvo Cars. “The all-new Volvo XC90 is on its way to customers and the new Volvo V60 Cross Country will strengthen our offer in the XC-line even further”.

The Volvo XC60 was the best-selling model in May with 13,183 sold cars (2014: 11,823), followed by the Volvo V40 and V40 Cross Country for which deliveries reached a total of 8,838 cars (2014: 9,025). The S60 and S60L models were third best selling at 5,614 cars (2014: 6,010).
