‘The private sector is part of our societal fabric’ – Nestle
The SDGs are a new, universal set of goals, targets and indicators that UN member states are expected to ratify in September, to use to form their agendas and political policies over the next 15 years. They follow and build on the Millennium Development Goals, which are due to expire at the end of the year.
Mr Bulcke described how Nestle will support the goals through its own Creating Shared Value commitments that focus on areas including water, nutrition and rural development. He also emphasised that all stakeholders: governments, companies, NGOs and other institutions, must combine to help deliver the agenda.
“Now is the time for all of us to find ways to work together, share ideas and solutions and form partnerships to create the kind of world, and the kind of opportunities that future generations deserve,” Mr Bulcke said.
“The cornerstones of these collaborations must be transparency, trust, respect, and a shared sense of purpose for a better world.”
