Huawei 5G Claims 300% Spectrum Efficiency Boost at IMT-2020 (5G) Summit
IMT-2020 (5G) Promotion Group based on the original IMT-Advanced Promotion Group was jointly established in February 2013 by three Chinese ministries (Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, Development and Reform Commission, and Ministry of Science). The 5G Promotion Group comprises 56 member units, including China Mobile, China Unicom, China Telecom, Huawei and Tsinghua University. It is the major platform for promoting 5G technology research in China and also facilitates international communication and cooperation. Experts from EU’s METIS, Japan’s 5GMF, Korea’s 5G Forum, Qualcomm and Ericsson attended at the event.
On behalf of the IMT-2020 (5G) Promotion Group, Dr. Luo Zhendong, from China Academy of Telecommunication Research, released the ‘5G Wireless Technology Architecture’ white paper and Mr. Tan Shiyong, Associate Director of Huawei 5G Network Architecture, released the ‘5G Network Technology Architecture’ white paper at the event in Beijing. The papers outlined 5G key technologies, including new waveform modulation technique Filtered-OFDM, SCMA (Sparse Code Multiple Access), Polar Code, Massive MIMO, NFV, network slicing. The white papers released at the event, build on two previous 5G papers ‘5G vision and demands’ from May 2014 and ‘5G concept’ from February 2015. These papers show the sustained and tangible progress of domestic 5G research and development and standardization tasks.
At the summit, Mr. Zhang Feng, Chief Engineer of Ministry of Industry and Information Technology , said, "The Promotion Group is organizing domestic companies to complete 5G research in the areas of technology requirements and spectrum. China is one of the most active branches of international 5G standardization. As a group we will further strengthen 5G research and development to promote 5G industrialization and commercialization."
Mr. Yu Quan, Chief Strategy Officer, Huawei Wireless Network Product Line, outlined the latest breakthroughs progress in Huawei 5G new air interface and flexible network architecture. Huawei released a 5G new air interface at the Mobile World Congress in March, 2015 and also released ‘Huawei 5G Radio white paper’ in April, 2015. Huawei’s 5G key technology components of flexible air interface and network architecture are outlined in China 5G technology white papers released at the 5G summit. The technology innovation includes new waveform Filtered-OFDM, Sparse Code Multiple Access, Polar Code, Network Slicing, Decoupling of control plane and user plane. At the event, Mr. Yu Quan said, "Huawei 5G architecture complies with industry standards and trends. Key technology components include all-spectrum, cloudy network architecture and new air interface. In the field trial, the key technologies from Huawei proposal can achieve the aim of boost 300% spectral efficiency.”
Mr. Yu Quan, Chief Strategy Officer of Huawei Wireless Network Product Line delivered keynote speech at the Summit
5G is stepping into the technology evaluation stage from the stages of vision and requirements definition. Huawei will work together with industry 5G standardization organizations and research institutions to enhance cooperation for global 5G unified standard.
