Energy Efficiency a Priority for Carrefour and Schneider Electric
OREANDA-NEWS. May 29, 2015. Schneider Electric Romania developed an energy efficiency project for Carrefour. Under the project, energy efficiency solutions were implemented both in the 94 supermarkets and in the entire network of Carrefour hypermarkets, with immediate benefits on reducing electricity consumption and, implicitly, the cost, increasing the comfort and safety of users and reducing the environmental impact.
Following the successful implementation, in a first stage, of the StruxureWare Power Monitoring solution for the 94 supermarkets, Carrefour and Schneider Electric decided to extend the project by implementing the EcoStruxure architecture for the entire network of hypermarkets. Thus, a number of benefits were generated for Carrefour at business level, such as decreased operational costs by reducing electricity consumption, decreased capital expenses by reducing wiring, installation and operation costs related to the integrated systems of buildings, increased value of assets, ensuring a sustainable value and reduced costs throughout the life cycle of the building.
The main features of the StruxureWare Power Monitoring solution include monitoring the total electricity consumption depending on the types of load (refrigeration, lighting, HVAC) and real time access to information and reports on the Carrefour server, which are useful decide on the most suitable energy saving actions. This digital solution allows managing multiple locations and uses a simple, intuitive interface for various categories of users.
The EcoStruxure architecture was created by integrating StruxureWare Building Operation and Power Monitoring Expert systems. While StruxureWare Building Operation provides integrated functions for energy, lighting monitoring, control, management, fire protection and HVAC, Power Monitoring Expert is a software for electricity supply management applications, which collects and organizes data from the electricity network through an intuitive web interface.
The main features of the EcoStruxure solution are monitoring the quality of electricity supply, monitoring the total energy consumption, adjusted to different types of load, directly from the central dispatch centre (Carrefour’s headquarters), for up to 20 circuits per location, integration on a common platform of the benefits of building management systems provided by Schneider Electric, in order to optimize in each location the water, air, gas and electricity consumption, as well as an effective reporting of alarms through the web interface to reduce the duration of repairs and maintenance.
“As part of its sustainable development strategy, Carrefour Romania becomes involved in initiatives intended to protect the environment and implements, together with its partners, systems for reducing the resources used for daily operations. Thus, the solution proposed by Schneider Electric to make energy consumption more effective is complementary to this strategy and the results are encouraging” declared Florin C?p???n?, Sustainable Development and Institutional Relations Drector of Carrefour Romania
Other benefits of implementing this project in Carrefour supermarkets and hypermarkets are related to people and the environment. For instance, the solutions provided by Schneider Electric create a higher level of comfort, safety and productivity, ensuring a safe and healthy environment, with a high quality indoor climate and the possibility to easily manage climate and lighting. Also, these solutions contribute to reducing electricity consumption and carbon dioxide emissions and improve the public, market and management perception of Carrefour’s business by reducing the environmental impact and achieving the CSR objectives.
