Prime Minster Rõivas in Sweden: direct economic cooperation must continue
OREANDA-NEWS. At today’s meeting, Prime Minister Taavi Rõivas and Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Löfen discussed bilateral economic relations, safety of the region and migration affairs in the European Union. Prime Minister Rõivas said that Sweden is the most important export partner for Estonia and the second-best economic partner. “Cross-border digital solutions constitute the field where we should further enhance our cooperation. In addition to bilateral work, we can also play a leading role in further enhancement of the European Commission’s Digital Single Market inititative,” said Rõivas in the course of the meeting with Stefan Löfen.
Prime Ministers exchanged information and coordinated the steps against the impacts of information war, including a joint response to the influence activities of Russia in media space. “Estonia and Sweden are strong partners in terms of economy, as well as in external policy - we have a common understanding of the changed security situation and a consensus on Russia’s aggression in Ukraine and the issues related to the sanctions,” said Prime Minister Rõivas. Prime Ministers agreed that the European Union should extend economic sanctions against Russia in June and, if necessary, also tighten the measures. “It is evident that Russia is not fulfilling the clauses of Minsk agreements. Until there is no ceasefire in Ukraine, we cannot consider any alleviation of the sanctions,” said Rõivas. Prime Minister and his family will also have a private meeting with Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden in Stockholm
