SunEdison launches 3.8MW Utah solar farm
SunEdison will sell power from the Milford facility in Beaver County to PacifiCorp division Rocky Mountain Power through a 20-year power purchase agreement. The power will supply 500 households across PacifiCorp's Utah territory of about 835,000 customers.
The new solar farm will displace about 5,443 metric tonnes/yr of CO2, according to SunEdison.
The price of the power agreement has not been disclosed, but the Utah Public Service Commission approved the deal as consistent with rate treatment under the Public Utility Regulatory Policies Act (PURPA). That would would give SunEdison a levelized price of 5.1-5.3?/kWh during on-peak hours, and 3.7-3.9?/kWh in off-peak hours, according to the commission.
"This is the first of many SunEdison projects to come on line in Utah," SunEdison executive vice president of Americas Paul Gaynor said.
In March, SunEdison applied to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission for three additional solar projects in Utah to receive qualifying entity status under PURPA, which governs Utah's procurement of small-scale solar generation.
Those facilities include the 80MW Escalante II project, 3MW Granite Peak project and 3MW Laho project, all interconnected within PacifiCorp territory in Beaver County.
