Johnson Controls curtails production of automotive components in St. Petersburg
OREANDA-NEWS. American automotive component manufacturer Johnson Controls curtails production at two its plants in St. Petersburg, which stop operation. The company entered St. Petersburg in 2005 and supplies automotive seats for GM and Ford, Vedomosti newspaper reports.
According to Maya Sviridova, a representative of the National Association of Automotive Component Manufacturers in Northwestern Federal District, Johnson Controls phases out production as it mostly cooperated with GM, which froze its plant in St. Petersburg, and Ford, which reduces its production. Collaboration with Nissan was insignificant. As the automotive industry recovers the company may return, but the vacant place will quickly be occupied by other suppliers - Korean manufacturers of automotive components are now considering possibility of their production in St. Petersburg, M.Sviridova says.
